Local bowlers among top prize-winners in Westport indoor bowls competition

ONCE again great indoor bowling was enjoyed by over one hundred bowlers from all over Ireland, North and South in the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport last week.

Fourteen bowlers from the Sligo indoor club took part, and once again did the club proud.

Marie Stewart, one of the Sligo club players, bowled brilliantly helping the winning team to take the top prize. Well done Marie in keeping the flag flying for Sligo Indoor bowling.

Marina Watson was also up there making it through to the semi finals, but unfortunately lost out by just a point in a tied end.

However Marina went on to share in the top prize in the indoor bowling competition in the Great National Hotel, Ballina, with the new Paul O’ Keefe weekend Indoor bowling competition.

The indoor competitions continue with the Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill hosting the next one on November 17 th.

Bowlers are looking forward to a relaxing break before the Christmas madness, and with a stroll through the Christmas market in Eyre Square who would not want to be there.

Meanwhile the outdoor bowling competitions on home ground are booming ahead, with some big wins and even bigger losers - unexpected results - but that’s the way it goes.

This year the highest loser is in with another chance of going ahead, and who knows where they will end up - even going on to win the competition.
