Eight trains a day plan by Irish Rail
IRISH Rail plans to increase the number of trains on the Sligo to Dublin line from seven to eight thanks to increasing numbers using the service.
Iarnród Éireann plans to implement the timetable alterations from 9 th December subject to the approval of the National Transport Authority.
On the Sligo/Dublin line, this will see weekday services increase from seven trains each way daily to eight trains each way, with an extra morning train from Dublin Connolly to Sligo, and an evening train from Sligo to Connolly.
In addition, there will be time changes on a number of Sligo line services to allow for changed crossing points necessitated by the new services, and to improve overall service punctuality.
A summary of the proposed changes from 9 th December 2018 are:
· Additional service Connolly to Sligo Monday to Friday: 06.55hrs and 09.05hrs Connolly to Sligo will operate, replacing existing 08.00hrs Connolly to Sligo
· Saturday only 09.05hrs Connolly to Sligo will operate, replacing existing 08.00hrs Connolly to Sligo · Additional service Sligo to Connolly Monday to Saturday: 16.55hrs (17.00hrs Saturday) and 19.00hrs Sligo to Dublin Connolly, replacing existing 18.00hrs Sligo to Connolly
A company spokesperson said “as demand grows for our services, we are delighted to be able to propose the introduction of an additional service each way on the Sligo/ Dublin line.
“Eight services each way daily will give an excellent choice of departure times for customers. A total of 1.34 million journeys were made on the Sligo line in 2017, equalling the previous record (2008) and a new high will certainly be achieved this year.”
