Drivers convicted in their absence

Several motorists who failed to appear at Sligo District Court on speeding charges have been convicted and fined in their absence.

Michael McDonagh of Almare Terrace, Finisklin, was convicted of driving at 70kph in a 60kph zone on the R296 Ballybrenn­an to Ballymote road on 25 th March. He was fined ¤80.

Andrew Kellard of Castlefiel­d, Stonebridg­e, Dromahair was also convicted in his absence of speeding at 79kph in a 60kph zone on the N59 at Corballa on 30 th March. The court heard he has two previous conviction­s for driving offences. Judge Kilrane fined Kellard ¤150.

Miriam Carnegie of Roslea Road, Easkey, was convicted and fined ¤200 for driving at 90kph in a 50kph zone at Killeenduf­f, Easkey on 12 th April.

Separately, Aurimas Bagdonas (30) of Corhownagh, Ballisodar­e, pleaded guilty to two Public Order offences at the Market Yard on 13th October. He was swinging punches at another man. Judge Kilrane remanded him on bail to 15 th November to deal with the matter.
