One hundred women needed for new DVAS video project
ONE hundred women are needed for a video project to encourage women to report domestic violence.
One in three women experience psychological violence by a male partner in their lifetime.
This equates to 580,000 Irish women.
79% of women who experience a serious physical or sexual assault have never reported this.
Domestic Violence Advocacy Service (DVAS) Sligo Leitrim & West Cavan hope to change this and help women to tell.
Carmel McNamee from DVAS says the aim of the video is to encourage women to report domestic violence.
“This video is being filmed to encourage women to report domestic violence and to let them know that organisations like DVAS nationwide are available to provide support and services when they are ready”
“We are really hoping to create a simple video featuring 100 women.
This will take place over one afternoon or evening in Sligo in early December. Interested women of all ages and backgrounds can email video@dvas.ie
Carmel finishes: “We really need the women of the North West to stand up and turn out against Domestic Violence, bring friends and neighbours and help to encourage women to speak out”.
