Falling into river was ‘sobering, trust me’

-

A man who fell off a bridge into the Garavogue river after getting drunk on a night out, suffered “punishment enough” according to District Court Judge Kevin Kilrane.

Jason O’Mahoney (41) ofMaryville Hostel, Finisklin, was charged with being intoxicated in public at Rockwood Parade on 29 th May.

“I’m very guilty. I fell over the bridge,” he told the court.

“It was sobering, trust me. And very cold,” he told Judge Kilrane.

The court heard he had no previous convictions.

“That’s punishment in itself,” noted Judge Kilrane.

He then applied the Probation Act to O’Mahoney leaving him without a criminal conviction.
