Ballisodare vigil on gender violence
As part of the International 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence (25 th November-10 th December) which Mothers’ Union supports, a Prayer Vigil will take place from 10am-5pm in Holy Trinity Church, Ballisodare on 29 th November. This entails an opportunity for quiet reflection and prayer with focus points. At 8pm on the same evening there will be a Service led by Rev Andrew Ison. Dan Scannell, a former prison governor and volunteer will speak at this event.
All are invited and very welcome to attend throughout the day and especially to the evening Service. Phyllis Grothier, All-Ireland President of Mothers’ Union said: “A particular focus of our work in Ireland is to raise awareness of the scourge of domestic abuse and its enormous effect on the lives of families both locally and globally. We recognise that one of the greatest difficulties around the issue of abuse is the lack of awareness of the impact it has on all who are affected - the abused, whether male or female, the children and the perpetrator. We recognise that domestic abuse is an issue for all sections of society, regardless of class or religion.”
