CHRISTMAS TREE CEREMONY

Mass on Saturday evening, December 8, has been changed to 7 p.m. to facilitate the blessing of the Christmas tree at the community centre followed by tea or coffee in the community centre, organised by Cadra This is an opportunit­y for the community of Carraroe to come together for an evening of prayer and socialisat­ion in preparatio­n for Christmas with our very talented choirs. All children, parents and residents are invited to be involved. Please keep the date free and join all the community for this special occasion.

PARISH CHOIR

Parish Choir rehearsal on Mondays at 8 p.m. in the church. If you can sing and would like to be part of a community choir, please come along. More male singers are required.

25 CARD GAME

Cadra in partnershi­p with St John’s GAA Club organise the regular game of progressiv­e 25 which takes place in Carraroe Community Centre each Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Looking forward to seeing all our regular players. Winners on 11 games were John Callaghan/Brian Foley. Runners-up on 10 games were Seán Collery/Anthony McKeon, Michael and Marga- ret Healy, Bernadette White/Pat Collery, Dermot Mitchell/Séamus McGoldrick. New inexperien­ced players are always welcome. Usual jackpot and prizes on the night. All proceeds go to local projects in the community.

CADRA AGM

A very successful annual general meeting was held on Tuesday night with many interestin­g issues discussed. The reports presented highlighte­d the work which has been undertaken to improve our area and some plans for the future were discussed. Thanks were expressed to all the volunteers, TD County councillor­ss for all the assistance over the year. A special word of thanks was expressed to Fr Jim Murray for his ongoing support and facilities of the community centre. All volunteers, friends and supporters are invited to a thank you social event in Molly Fulton’s on Friday, November 30, at 7 p.m. Tea or coffee etc will be available.

€1,000 Allocation – Cadra acknowledg­e and appreciate the €1,000 allocated by Cllr Chris Mac Manus towards the speed warning lights in the area. We also appreciate the €1,000 allocation by Cllr Marie Casserly towards progressin­g the footpath on road to Community Sports Facility and eventually to Holywell.

SAFETY IN OUR COMMUNITY

Cadra distribute­d in excess of 30 free Hi-Viz at the AGM and Card Game on Tuesday last. We appeal to people walking or working around our community to wear Hi-Viz to ensure visibility in these dark evenings. We have a supply of free HiViz available from any member of committee. Please keep a look out for all our elderly neighbours to ensure they are safe this winter.

TIDY TOWNS

New Landscaped Area: Our new project is almost complete with a boat installed on the old N4 entrance to our village. Many thanks to all the volunteers who assisted with the project especially Séamus, who made the major contributi­on. We appreciate the contributi­on of €500 from Martin Reilly Motors. We acknowledg­e the financial support of Sligo County Council Special Project Grants, We thank Conor McCann Engineer, Lucy Brennan Parks Dept and Robert Lindsley and staff of Sligo County Council in our area for their assistance and co-operation.

The sick and Housebound: Mass is on 107FM Just tune your radio before Mass. Please let the housebound know about this service in your area.

Parking at Church: Please use the designated car parks at our church which includes around the community centre. Plenty of parking is available in safe locations. Please avoid parking on the main roads. It obstructs passing traffic.

FIT – CAMP CLASSES

This class will be held each Monday and Thursday evening in Carraroe Community Centre. Lose Weight and Tone Up in a fun and enjoyable environmen­t. Men and Women of all fitness levels welcome. First class starts Monday, September 3, and only available through booking as places are limited. Call or Text Cian at 085 7868116 to find out more or book a place.

SEAN NÓS DANCING CLASSES

Classes by all-Ireland Champion Dancer Ryan Sheridan continue on Friday evenings in Carraroe Community Centre. Beginner Classes from 6 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Intermedia­te Classes from 7 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registrati­on on the night 30 minutes before start of each class. Suitable for all school going children from aged five to 13 years with a keen interest in learning traditiona­l sean nós Dancing. LAKEVIEW GUILD ICA

The guild meet on the first Tuesday of the month in Carraroe Community Centre at 8 p.m. New members always welcome-for further informatio­n contact Mary at 086 3755894.The next meeting is on Tuesday, December 4, at 8 p.m.

The art classes continue on Thursday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the community centre and there will be an exhibition of their paintings at our December meeting. The Christmas party for the lakeview guild members will be held following the December meeting. The guild members agreed to make a donation to charity instead of exchanging gifts, all members agreed and this will be collected at the next meeting.

ST JOHN’S GAA CLUB

Dance class followed by live band each Wednesday night in Carraroe Community Centre Sligo.
