New meters will encourage parking in Sligo - Council

-

SLIGO County Council has become the latest authority to introduce Parking Tag, the cashless mobile parking payments system.

The service allows motorists to pay for their parking via the Parking Tag app on their smartphones, online, by SMS or phone call.

The pay by phone service, which now has over 200,000 motorists registered in Ireland.

Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Martin Baker said “This new service is very convenient for motorists and will deliver great efficiencies to the local council, avoiding the additional costs related to investing in and maintaining meters and collecting cash.”

The council hopes will encourage more people to park in the town, with a positive knock on effect for local businesses.

Parking Tag can remind users ten minutes before their parking time expires and time can be extended without having to return to the car.

Once registered, customers can park immediately and can also take advantage of day rate parking, where available.

One - Off payment options are also available by credit and debit card online or through the 3 and Vodafone Charge to Mobile service and in certain Payzone retail outlets – look out for the signs on shop windows.

One of the big advantages for customers of using Parking Tag is that they need not return to their car to display a ticket.

Sligo County Council has also installed a new fleet of parking ticket machines across the paid parking area in Sligo.

Many of these new machines in the busier parking areas now have the facility to accept contactless debit / credit card payments, meaning it is no longer necessary to have coins to hand to pay for parking.

Motorists can avail of tap and go payment to purchase their pay and display tickets. Where the new machines only accept coin, customers can opt to use Parking Tag as a cashless alternative. For full instructions on how to use the service visit www.parkingtag.ie
