TOURLESTRANE’S Tom Normanly was remembered at the recent Westport Sea 2 Summit with a large group from the parish taking part in the adventure race to raise money for SHOUT.

His wife Marie said that Tom loved competing in the Sea 2 Summit for many years. She added that their chosen charity was SHOUT because it provided excellent support for Tom.

Marie said: “A year and a half ago, I lost my husband Tom to cancer. He loved doing Sea 2 Summit, he had done it several years in a row. We decided to raise funds for Shout, a charity in Sligo that helps families deal with cancer diagnosis.

“Tom absolutely loved Sea 2 Summit so a group of close friends and half of the parish of Tourlestrane have come with us this year. Shout was such a positive experience for him that it was a no brainer as a fundraiser,” she added.

Tom was a was big into community life in Tourlestrane and south Sligo and had represented the club at all championships, winning the senior county championship in the mid nineties and was also an underage coach.

Many of the competitors taking part in the Westport Sea 2 Summit are supporting charities that are very close to their hearts.

More than 2,000 competitors took part in what is the last and the largest adventure race of the season.

Shaun Stewart from Donegal was the winner of the Supreme Event in a time of 2:46:20 with Isobel Oakes the first lady to cross the finish line.
