Busy weekend of Connacht action
THE league schedule was dominated at the weekend by the T P Brennan Connacht Cup and Shield fixtures that saw only two games in the Andrew Mullen Sligo Pallets Premier league.
Real Tubber were at home to Gurteen Celtic and what a game it turned out to be. Gurteen Celtic’s defence were in top form dealing with anything Real Tubber had to offer and Gurteen took the lead a minute from half time when Caelan Hunt pounced to fire them ahead. Real Tubber were quick out of the blocks and had netted twice in the first five minutes of the second half. Eoin Walsh brought the teams level and Joe Moran then put Real Tubber ahead. These two goals gave Real Tubber the upper hand and they came their game at a high tempo on 70 minutes Fergal McDonagh blasted home the third goal for Real Tubber. Ten minutes later and Brian Morahan added the fourth and minutes from full time Eoin Walsh netted his second goal to see Real Tubber in the end run out by five goals to one.
Meanwhile the Riverstown Masters were at home to St Johns and still looking for that elusive first win but St Johns were not in Christmas spirit. Enda McCarrick scored the only goal for the Masters. St Johns on the other hand hit them for six. Conor Brennan bagged a hat trick bringing his league tally to nine goals. Malcolm Reilly chipped in with two superb strikes and Evan Davey was also on the mark that wrapped up yet another very impressive display from St Johns. In the T P Brennan Connacht Cup 2nd Round the following clubs advance; Strand Celtic courtesy of an Eoin Nicholson hat trick, and a goal apiece for Mark McCallion, Aaron O’Boyle and Kaillum Burns saw the seasiders advance at the expense of visitors Ballina Town B. MCR hit MacDara for 6-2, goals apiece here for Keith Nibbs and Ryan McManus with Darren Sommers and Steven Armstrong also netting a goal each.
Aughanagh Celtic and Ballymote Celtic finished up all square after 90 minutes with Aughanagh eventually running out by six goals to two. Merville United won well away to Renmore of Galway two all at full time Merville victorious eventually on a penalty shootout. While a few fell at the second hurdle Cliffoney Celtic fell to a late goal from Lucas Di Silva that put Mayo side Manulla into the next round. Skyvalley Rovers Roscommon, advance by the odd goal in three away to Tireragh FC. St Bernard’s of Galway were victors over Glenview Stars by two goals to nil at Forthill.
Strokestown United of Roscommon hit Benbulben FC for seven to advance to the next round. Tuam Celtic of Galway dispatched Leitrim side Manorhamilton Rangers by three goals to one. Balliso- dare United fell by the odd goal in three at home Galway side Maree/ Oranmore.
In the T P Brennan Connacht Shield Galway Bohs B defeated the Riverstown Boys Arrow Harps 3-2.
Oscar Traynor Squad Training: Manager John Loftus requests that all players attend for squad training this Friday commencing at 8pm sharp at the Ray Mac Sharry Complex. John invites all League managers who feel they have players for the representative team to please contact him with the names of players and the position they play in. Again, all players welcome to attend Squad Training but please confirm same with Manager John Loftus. The Sligo Leitrim DSL will play the Inishowen League on Sunday the 9th December at Mc Ginn Park Buncrana KO 2pm and on Saturday the 15th December they are at home to the Donegal League. They will play the Donegal League on Saturday the 15th December KO7.30pm at the Ray Mac Sharry Complex.
FAI New Balance Junior Cup 5th Round
On Sunday, Carbury travel to Tipperary to take on Newport Town FC who play in the Limerick League while Manorhamilton Rangers are at home to fellow Tipperary outfit St Michaels FC. Sunday 2pm.
