BOOK LAUNCH

Manorhamil­ton Library has invited former Leitrim County Librarian Seán Ó Súilleabhá­in who is author of a new book Under the Thatch Memories of a Longford Childhood to launch it in the library on Friday, December 7, at 6.30 p.m. Come along and celebrate Seán’s book about his memories of life in North Longford in 1950s and 1960s. Get your copy on the night.

SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL

Saint Vincent de Paul will hold their annual Christmas church gate collection after Masses in Dromahair, Killargue and Newtownman­or on the weekend of December 1 and two. Your generosity would be very much appreciate­d.

PEACE LEARNING WORKSHOP

New exciting Workshop for 15- to 18-year-olds starting in the Depot on Wednesdays from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. This Peace Learning Project will look at what causes conflict? What does ‘peace’ mean? The workshops will explore these issues through film, media, guest speakers. ‘SHAVE OFF’

A ‘Shave Off’ for Grovember in Memory of Séamus Carway takes place on Saturday, December 8, in Castledarg­an Hotel, Ballygawle­y. There are over 65 men from all over North and South Leitrim, Sligo and further afield getting hairy in Memory of Séamus for Sligo Cancer Support Centre.

Please come along to the ‘Shave Off’ night and enjoy entertainm­ent, food, music and lots of spot prizes on the night. Thanks to all the local Leitrim men involved for their support. A night not to be missed.

ASTROTURF

DARC are delighted to announce that the work to construct the all weather astroturf playing surface will commence in the park this week. The planned work will take 12 weeks to complete, so allowing for Christmas it should be completed by mid February.

During the constructi­on, the playground will be accessible and will be fenced off from any works. The walkway around the park will not be available during this time. The main pitch is also unavailabl­e till the spring while GAA carry out maintenanc­e work.

This will be another excellent amenity for the whole of Dromahair, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the new facility when it is completed.

As the winter evening draws in, why not come to Dromahair Library and check out the list of DVDs for loan. A wide range available in your nearest library today and others available to order. Visit your library or order online and get an email when the DVD is ready for collection. All DVDs are free to check out so call Deirdre for assistance in Dromahair Library today. Remember we have that great book to snuggle up with also.

GARDA INFORMATIO­N CENTRE

A Garda Community Informatio­n Centre is open in the Depot, Back Line, Dromahair on Mondays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This service will continue each Monday. General Garda Services and informatio­n will be provided. This is a pilot scheme and its’ success depends on the support of the public. Please use the service when it is made available locally.

GET IRELAND WALKING

As aprt of the Leitrim Sports Partnershi­p initiative, a walking group is meeting on Tuesdays at 7.30 outside the Depot, Backline, Dromahair. This is a 4k walk in the lit up areas. Tips on walking and good posture. There is no charge. Contact 9650498 for further informatio­n.
