Kieran Quinn brings his ‘Theme Nights’ to Dublin

-

ON December 22 2011 a phenomenon was born in Sligo, upstairs in the wine bar in the now-closed Source to be exact. Pianist extraordinaire, Kieran Quinn invited a selection of singers and musicians from the area to join with him in creating a collaborative concert which he entitled a theme night.

The theme on this occasion was Christmas Songs, and was followed a week later by Theme Night #2 – which featured the music of Tom Waits.

Nineteen more theme nights have since taken place, each exposing different singers and featuring different musical genres.

They moved from Source to the then Velvet Rooms, and since to the Knocknarea Arena, the Stephen St. Car Park and most regularly, the Hawk’s Well Theatre.

The concerts have become joyous musical celebrations in the Sligo calendar and can feature up to 100 local artists onstage. They are unique, they are exciting, they are fun and they are a genuine exposition of a musical community joining together to create something bigger than themselves.

Quinn’s theme nights are hugely popular and regularly sell out at local venues.

Now, Quinn is bringing this Sligo theme night phenomenon to Dublin.

He said: “These nights are huge celebrations of Sligo music and culture. “At certain stages in life and music you need to take a leap. It’s a risk, but I firmly believe the theme nights are now ready to be seen on a bigger stage and by a wider au- dience.

“We are leaving no stone unturned to make sure that we show off the best of what we have to offer and rock Dublin for the night.”

Theme Night #22 will take place on Thursday February 7, 2019 in Vicar Street, Dublin and the theme this time is “The Story So Far”.

Recreating some of the most memorable moments of the concerts to date, Kieran will be joined by Cathy Jordan, Tabby Callaghan, Sandy Kelly, Seamie O’Dowd, Niamh Crowley, Sinead Conway and many more on this unique occasion.

Tickets (€28) are on sale now from www.ticketmaster. ie and there are exclusive VIP and corporate packages on sale from Kieran’s website – www. kieranquinn.ie

A return bus will leave Thomas Connolly’s at 4pm on the day and return that night. Ask at the bar for details.
