‘Champion’ victorious at awards
CARL BRENNAN WINS PICTURE OF THE YEAR WITH PAPER ALSO HONOURED FOR COVERAGE
THE Aldi Community Games media awards were held in Cavan on Saturday, with the Sligo Champion picking up 2 awards.
Photographer Carl Brennan won photograph of the year for his image of hurdlers in action while the newspaper also won for its overall coverage throughout the year of the Community Games.
The newspaper has been a supporter of the games for many years.
The gala function took place in the Cavan Crystal Hotel on Saturday and RTE’s Tony O’Donoghue was the MC on the night which was an end of year celebration for the Community Games.
There were further awards for Sligo with Rosses Point being the Sligo winners of the Best Area Involvement Award for 2018.
Representing the area on the night were Mandy & Ciaran Cunningham. Fellow Sligo man, John Walsh from the St. Feichins Area Community Games was presented with an award for the best Adult Volunteer of the year.
John has been actively involved in Community Games in his area for many years. He is also involved at County, Provincial and National level and has done such immense work for the Community Games over the years.
Community Games is extremely strong in Sligo and the athletes once again did the county proud this year.
