Local teenager reaches final of Junior Irish Eurovision competition
A young Sligo singer recently competed in the finals to represent Ireland in the Junior Eurovision song contest.
Kerry Ann McCreery, a 13-year-old student of the Mercy College, lives in Strandhill, and is a vocal student of the Sligo Academy of Music.
In August, Kerry Ann applied to audition for the Junior Eurovision Ireland which was advertised by TG4, Adare Studios. She auditioned against hundreds of children nationwide and made it through to the live television stage where she had to write and compose a song as gaeilge. This was extremely challenging and difficult for a child but with the help of her mother Catherine, they wrote a song called ‘ Tog mo Lamh’.
In October, Kerry Ann performed her song on television and sang for three judges, Linda Martin being one of them. She won the semi final show and made it through to the final along with five other children, unfortunately she didn’t win.
Her Mum Catherine said: “Kerry Ann did extremely well to make it through to the very end stage of Eurovision and we are all so proud of her. She has worked so hard to accomplish this amazing achievement. We would like to sincerely thank everyone for supporting Kerry Ann in particular Luke Devaney of Grange for his amazing backing track and time, Ms O, Hagan the school principal and her dedicated teaching staff in the Mercy College, her vocal tutor Mr Jonathan Carter, and of course her family.
