Mary-Lou McDonald will attend Lissadell event
SINN Féin President Mary-Lou McDonald TD will be one of several speakers at an event to mark the centenary anniversary of women’s suffrage as well as the election of Countess Markievicz, the world’s first ever cabinet minister.
The event called ‘Suffrage, Rebellion, Liberation - the Unfinished business of Irish Republican Women’ will take place in the historic Coach House of Lissadell House, on Saturday 8th December at 2pm.
Event Chair Councillor Chris MacManus said: This will be an afternoon of politics, music and drama with speakers including academics and historians such as Dr. Mary McAuliffe, former political prisoners and national politicians. I’m delighted that Sinn Féin President Mary Lou will give the closing address.
“The event will also feature three historical exhibitions, including a dedicated section to Countess Markievicz. The event is open to the public and I would encourage anyone with an interest in national politics and the struggle for equality and suffrage to join us for this unique occasion.
