Driver drank can of beer and drove off

A man who sat drink­ing beer in his car and then drove off when Gar­daí ap­proached him was found to be over three times over the le­gal drink­ing driv­ing limit.

Shane Feeney (33) of Mountshan­non, Bun­do­ran, Sligo ap­peared in court where a Pro­ba­tion Re­port was handed into Judge Kevin Kil­rane.

Sergeant Derek But­ler told the court that at 3.45am on Sun­day 19 th Fe­bru­ary 2017, Gar­daí saw Feeney sit­ting in the driv­ing seat of a parked car on the Pearse Road, drink­ing from a can of beer.

When they ap­proached, he drove off and was later found to have had 177mgs/100mls of al­co­hol in his sys­tem. He was also found with to have had no in­sur­ance or driv­ing li­cence.

The case was ad­journed to 2nd May 2019 for sen­tenc­ing. Separately, Dovy­das Dir­vanauskas (28) of Cartron Point, pleaded guilty to drink driv­ing at River Road, Cartron on 18th July 2016. His blood al­co­hol level was 48mgs/100mls. He was dis­qual­i­fied from driv­ing for two years and fined ¤150.
