Driver drank can of beer and drove off

A man who sat drinking beer in his car and then drove off when Gardaí approached him was found to be over three times over the legal drinking driving limit.

Shane Feeney (33) of Mountshann­on, Bundoran, Sligo appeared in court where a Probation Report was handed into Judge Kevin Kilrane.

Sergeant Derek Butler told the court that at 3.45am on Sunday 19 th February 2017, Gardaí saw Feeney sitting in the driving seat of a parked car on the Pearse Road, drinking from a can of beer.

When they approached, he drove off and was later found to have had 177mgs/100mls of alcohol in his system. He was also found with to have had no insurance or driving licence.

The case was adjourned to 2nd May 2019 for sentencing. Separately, Dovydas Dirvanausk­as (28) of Cartron Point, pleaded guilty to drink driving at River Road, Cartron on 18th July 2016. His blood alcohol level was 48mgs/100mls. He was disqualifi­ed from driving for two years and fined ¤150.
