Man harassed lady over three years

-

A 77-year-old man who harassed a woman over the course of three years has been remanded on continuing bail to next June to allow Gardaí a chance to speak to his victim.

De Geraghty of Meadowvale, Tonaphubble, Sligo, appeared before Judge Kilrane last week, having previously pleaded guilty to harassing Ms Ursula Smullen at Wolfe Tone Street between 1st October 2014 and 7 th December 2017.

His defence solicitor Mr Mark Mullaney said it was “an unusual charge of harassment and the material used would be sensitive which upset Ms Smullen.”

He suggested a Probation Report would help the court find out what made him do it. Mr Mullaney added that Geraghty had attended a psychologist in Dublin for a period of months.

Judge Kilrane agreed to remand Geraghty on bail to 27 th June 2019 and ordered Gardaí to re-interview Ms Smullen to ascertain if there had been any further trouble and get her views on the conclusion of the case. The Judge added he may deal with the case by way of the Probation Act if he knows more next June.
