Eastern Gar­avogue Bridge can now start late 2019

THE news that Sligo County Coun­cil was get­ting ¤4.3 mil­lion to­wards the con­struc­tion of the Eastern Gar­avogue Bridge was wel­comed by Di­rec­tor of Ser­vices for Roads Tom Kil­feather.

“It has a long and che­quered his­tory but it’s shovel ready. We are now go­ing to move for­ward and fin­ish de­sign and go through the ten­der process to be on site late 2019,” he told mem­bers.

“This morn­ing’s an­nounce­ment has cut the time by about two and a half years,” he said. He also said the Coun­cil now owned a 17 acre land bank that will be ser­viced by the bridge and is zoned mixed use. “There’s po­ten­tial for de­vel­op­ment for any ser­vice type of in­dus­try, any­thing non-re­tail,” he added.
