St Mary’s hosting match in memory of Mark Rooney on St Stephen’s Day in club

KENT Park is the location on St Stephen’s Day for the annual match in memory of the late Mark Rooney who sadly died 2 years ago.

The charity match sees the hosts St Mary’s taking on Glencar/Manorhamil­ton who organised the match last year. Mark played with both clubs during his esteemed sporting career.

There are a number of games scheduled to take place, with the matches beginning at 12pm with the clubs’ U8 and U10s i n action.

Then from 12:30pm the ladies will face each other while the men’s teams will play at 1pm approximat­ely.

Refreshmen­ts will be available throughout the day in the clubhouse and a big crowd is expected to support the charity matches.

Mark, from Glencar, was a keen sportsman all his life and involved in GAA and soccer.

Mark also played golf with Co Sligo and his teammates dedicated their AIG Senior Cup win to him.

He also played with Strand Celtic, Manor Rangers, Sligo Rovers, St Mary’s and Glencar/Manorhamil­ton.

There is a large crowd expected for the charity match.

The first game gets underway at 12pm with the club’s underage teams in action before the senior teams are in action.
