Gethins ready for first profession­al fight

THIS Friday night is a major one for local boxer Aaron Gethins as he embarks on his first profession­al fight.

The 18-year-old from Sligo is fighting Croatian Silvije Kebet (27) in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar on Friday.

His dad and coach Glen said there is a huge crowd of supporters travelling to the fight supporting the Sligo boxer as he starts his profession­al career.

Glen told the Sligo Champion: “We are expecting a huge crowd, there are 200 people going from Sligo and 3 bus loads which is fantastic. There is a great crowd which is brilliant.

“Aaron is fighting a Croatian boxer who is 27 years old.

“He has had 19 profession­al fights and has 2 wins out of those.

“It is massive for Aaron it is going to be a big night as Castlebar man Ray Moylette is fighting for a WBO title.

“There are 13 fights altogether and it is going to be televised on TG4 too which is remarkable for Aaron on his first fight.

“He is really look- ing forward to it and I am his coach along with Stephen Reynolds and his manager is Tony Davitt.

“The whole night is sold out already and there will be 2,000 people there which is huge. It is going to be a huge occasion and it is great for Aaron to be on such a big bill.

“We are really looking forward to it and with such a big crowd coming down from Sligo we are hoping to get the result.

“I am very proud as his coach and this now is the start of his career,”Glen added.

Aaron is expected to be on at 8:30pm.
