Surf res­cuers are hon­oured

STRAND­HILL Surf Res­cue was hon­oured at the re­cent Ir­ish Wa­ter Safety Na­tional awards cer­e­mony which took place in Dublin Cas­tle.

The first ded­i­cated com­mu­nity res­cue ser­vice of its kind in Ire­land was pre­sented with the Ir­ish Wa­ter Safety Com­mu­nity and So­cial Re­spon­si­bil­ity Award.

Roy Kil­feather of the Strand­hill Surf Res­cue was at the cer­e­mony. The award was pre­sented by Sean Can­ney TD, Min­is­ter of State at the Depart­ment of Ru­ral and Com­mu­nity De­vel­op­ment.

The award is in recog­ni­tion of the sup­port given to Ir­ish Wa­ter Safety’s com­mu­nity work and com­mit­ment to drown­ing pre­ven­tion ini­tia­tives and the re­duc­tion of aquatic re­lated in­juries.

Strand­hill Surf Res­cue was the first ded­i­cated com­mu­nity res­cue ser­vice es­tab­lished in Ire­land un­der the aus­pices of the Ir­ish Surf­ing As­so­ci­a­tion and Ir­ish Wa­ter Safety.

Strand­hill Surf Res­cue has been a huge ben­e­fit to the com­mu­nity since be­ing es­tab­lished.
