Carbury and Manor bow out

BALLISODAR­E United played hosts to Ballymote Celtic at Youngs Quarry and it was the visitors who took the lead through Colm Duffy. Ballisodar­e then equalised through Dylan Wimsey.

With both sides creating chances it was Matthew Drew who scored the winner for Ballymote. Ballisodar­e did have the ball in the net twice but both goals were Disallowed.

Merville United and Glenview Stars produced another close encounter with plenty of goals. Merville came from behind on three occasions firstly following Conor Gray’s opener for Glenview. Donagh Cronin equalised for the home side shortly after that. Anthony Johnson put Glenview in front again only to have matters levelled again through Jordan Harte. Damian Shannon was on the score sheet for Glenview but with a second goal from Jordan Harte and one from Tyler Stallard this was enough to give Merville their victory.

The game between MCR and Strand Celtic ended all square after Daniel Gray put Strand Celtic ahead.

Ryan McManus then equalised for MCR. Despite Strand Celtic being reduced to ten men on the stroke of half time they battled on and had a penalty missed from Fergal O’Hara. Mark McCallion put strand ahead again but it was in-form striker Ryan McManus who scored his second and MCR’s equaliser with the last kick of the game.

In the Sligo Pallets Premier League, the game between Real Tubber and Coolaney had to be postponed as both pitches were unplayable.

St Johns took on Chaffpool United with the first half ending scoreless. The only goal of the game came from Malcolm Reilly to give St Johns the three points. Arrow Harps took on Benbulben FC at Riverstown with seven goals on display.

It was the visitors who took the lead with a goal from Michael Gilmartin and he was on the score sheet again to put Benbulben two up a halftime. Arrow Harps following their halftime team talk came out a different team and with a hattrick from Daniel Willis and a goal each from Liam Touhy and Ben Tuohy that sealed the game for the home side. Credit however is due to Benbulben who fought hard throughout the game with no subs having the bare minimum of eleven players.

Cliffoney Celtic took on Tieragh FC and it was the home side who took the lead in the 15th minute through Christy Keaney. Two minutes later Michael Henry equalised for Tieragh. Stephen Feeney put the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute but goals from Christy Keaney and Alan Gregg put the home side ahead at halftime. Five minutes into the second half Kevin Gavigan added the fourth goal for Cliffoney and it was Keaney who scored his third and Bartley Clancy making it six wrapped up matters for the home side.

In the FAI New Balance Junior Cup 5th Round, Manor Rangers took on St Michaels FC with the game having to be switched to the IT Astro following an inspection of the grounds in Manorhamil­ton. The visitors went ahead after 20 minutes with a goal from Shane Ryan. They doubled their lead 10 minutes later with a strike from Colm Bargary. Manor Rangers fought hard and got rewarded for their efforts when Aaron Hickey found the net in the 35th minute. Manor Rangers did create some chances in the second half but could not finish them and it was the visitors who went through to the next round. Carbury FC travelled to take on Newport FC in Tipperary. Gary Finan put Carbury in front early on and Newport equalised in the 22nd minute to level the game at half time. Ten minutes into the second half Mark McGoldrick scored to put Carbury in front again and Carbury held their lead until the 88th minute when the home side scored to put the game into extra time. With no goals to report in extra time the game went to penalties and it was Newport FC who came out on top winning 4-2 to put them through to the next round.
