Christmas Art Show in Rathcormack Craft Village

-

ON SUNDAYS 2nd and 9 th of December, the Art Collective are putting on a Christmas Art Show in the Market space in Rathcormack Craft Village, County Sligo. The group supports emerging, practicing artists and art groups in the community. They are all involved in this exhibition. These individuals and groups have created art through the disciplines of painting, print, sculpture, mixed media and photography. Póilín Mc Gowan, Tanis Gordon Smith and Marcelline Gordon are the founders of the Art Collective and hope to bring people together through their love of art. On their first project they have connected a huge body of 44 people together. A huge undertaking called The Shark Project.

This Art collaboration is an incentive to make people aware of the distressing reality of plastic pollution in and around the coastline of Ireland. “Plastics of all kinds are making a huge and life-threatening impact on marine life, so much so, that it eventually ends up in the food chain. For example; micro-beads, which are ingested by fish, could end up on your dinner plate!”

They found that the Basking Shark, a Plankton feeder and native to the coasts of Ireland, was the perfect candidate to make a collaborative piece of artwork with other artists and those who were interested in taking part in the community.

You can see this fantastic piece of artwork at Rathcormack Craft village at both Art Shows from 11am to 5pm on both Sundays. Its an event not to be missed!
