GOSPEL CHOIR

Our fab­u­lous Gospel Choir have the fol­low­ing up­com­ing events in the run up to Christ­mas.

Wed­nes­day, De­cem­ber 12: Fes­tive Choral Evening at St John’s Evan­ge­list Church Tub­ber­curry, 7.30 p.m. Tick­ets €10 each, on sale now.

Thurs­day, De­cem­ber 13: St Brigid’s Church, Corhow­nagh, Bal­liso­dare – Evening. Time to be con­firmed.

Satur­day, De­cem­ber 22: St Joseph’s Church Rock­field, Chil­dren’s Mass at 5.30 p.m. and Evening Ser­vice at 7 p.m.

The Christ­mas lights are now up so a BIG Thank you to all in­volved in help­ing this year. They will be switched on this Fri­day, De­cem­ber 7. Hope you all en­joy see­ing the town lit up for Christ­mas.

COOLANEY UNITED GAA CLUB NEWS

The Feely fam­ily Tub­bertelly have very kindly do­nated a new De­fib­ril­la­tor to Nace O’Dowd Park in mem­ory of James Feely. It will be in­stalled in the com­ing weeks. COOLANEY UNITED

Coolaney United Wed­nes­day Night Bonus Ball Draw is to sup­port fundrais­ing ef­forts for the pro­posed new Astro Pitch in Coolaney Com­mu­nity park. Each Bonus Ball is €5 with a weekly prize of €100. Bonus balls can be pur­chased in PK MEATS on Thurs­day and Fri­days and in O’Grady’s shop and Pub the rest of the week. Best of luck to all.

RE­CENT DEATHS

THE death took place at Ard na Greine Nurs­ing Home, En­nis­crone on Sun­day, Novem­ber 18, of Kath­leen Cole­man, Wood­lawns, En­nis­crone. She was a na­tive of Cuil­more, Gur­teen and with her late hus­band An­thony at­tended all Comhal­tas meet­ings and helped at all the County Fleadhs and other Comhal­tas events in Sligo for a very long num­ber of years. She was a quiet, unas­sum­ing lady and will be sadly missed by all who knew The an­nual Duck­her.Racewill take place on St Stephen’s Day Her re­mains re­posed at Mcat 2 p.m. Ducks will be on sale Gowan’s Fu­neral Home on soon from the play­ers and coachWed­nes­day evening and were rees. She is sur­vived by her sons An­thony and John, daugh­tersin-law, her sis­ter Bri­die, nieces Carmel, Kath­leen and Beatrice, grand­chil­dren, ex­tended fam­ily and many friends. May she rest in peace.

THE death took place at his res­i­dence on Sun­day, Novem­ber 25, of Martin Joe O’Grady, The Forge, Gur­teen. He was a well known mem­ber of the com­mu­nity be­ing one of the last tra­di­tional Black­smiths at the forge and he also was a well known tra­di­tional flute player and played all over Ire­land for many years. So it was so ap­pro­pri­ate that his re­mains were brought to the church on a horse drawn car­riage and he left the church to the sound of a group of tra­di­tional mu­si­cians play­ing the mu­sic he loved.

His re­mains had re­posed at his res­i­dence for a num­ber of days and were re­moved to St Patrick’s Church, Gur­teen on Thurs­day

CHRIST­MAS LIGHTS

for his Fu­neral Mass cel­e­brated by par­ish priest Fr Joe Caulfield as­sisted by Fr James McDon­agh PP Bal­ly­mote. The burial took place in Gur­teen Ceme­tery. Pre­de­ceased by his wife Win­nie, he is sur­vived by his daugh­ters Anna-Marie and Geral­dine, son Pat, daugh­ter – in – law Claire, grand­son Seán, sis­ter – in-law Bri­die, nieces, ex­tended fam­ily, neigh­bours and a wide cir­cle of friends to whom deep­est sym­pa­thy is ex­tended. May he rest in peace.

Gur­teen Tidy Towns are hav­ing a fundrais­ing raf­fle for Christ­mas with 10 great prizes – draw will take place in the Hill Ho­tel, Gur­teen on Sun­day, De­cem­ber 23.

BINGO

Bingo takes place ev­ery Fri­day night in Gur­teen Hall at 8.30 p.m. Pro­ceeds goes to the up­keep of the hall and the lo­cal Eastern Harps GAA Club. Big prize­money to be won on the night.

GUR­TEEN POST OF­FICE

The fight to keep Gur­teen post of­fice open goes on and the com­mit­tee meet ev­ery week and are thank­ful and heart­ened with the co-op­er­a­tion from the pub­lic. Peo­ple are asked to please keep us­ing all the fa­cil­i­ties at the post of­fice.

SVP COL­LEC­TION

The St Vin­cent de Paul an­nual col­lec­tion will take place at Masses next Satur­day and Sun­day, De­cem­ber 8, and 9. All money col­lected will be spent lo­cally. Your sup­port as al­ways would be grate­fully ap­pre­ci­ated.
