GOSPEL CHOIR

Our fabulous Gospel Choir have the following upcoming events in the run up to Christmas.

Wednesday, December 12: Festive Choral Evening at St John’s Evangelist Church Tubbercurr­y, 7.30 p.m. Tickets €10 each, on sale now.

Thursday, December 13: St Brigid’s Church, Corhownagh, Ballisodar­e – Evening. Time to be confirmed.

Saturday, December 22: St Joseph’s Church Rockfield, Children’s Mass at 5.30 p.m. and Evening Service at 7 p.m.

The Christmas lights are now up so a BIG Thank you to all involved in helping this year. They will be switched on this Friday, December 7. Hope you all enjoy seeing the town lit up for Christmas.

The Feely family Tubbertell­y have very kindly donated a new Defibrilla­tor to Nace O’Dowd Park in memory of James Feely. It will be installed in the coming weeks. Anyone Interested in CPR training, please contact Lorraine at 087 6779836 ASAP – hoping to have training before Christmas.

COOLANEY UNITED

Coolaney United Wednesday Night Bonus Ball Draw is to support fundraisin­g efforts for the proposed new Astro Pitch in Coolaney Community park. Each Bonus Ball is €5 with a weekly prize of €100. Bonus balls can be purchased in PK MEATS on Thursday and Fridays and in O’Grady’s shop and Pub the rest of the week. Best of luck to all.

RECENT DEATHS

THE death took place at Ard na Greine Nursing Home, Enniscrone on Sunday, November 18, of Kathleen Coleman, Woodlawns, Enniscrone. She was a native of Cuilmore, Gurteen and with her late husband Anthony attended all Comhaltas meetings and helped at all the County Fleadhs and other Comhaltas events in Sligo for a very long number of years. THE death took place at his residence on Sunday, November 25, of Martin Joe O’Grady, The Forge, Gurteen. He was a well known member of the community being one of the last traditiona­l Blacksmith­s at the forge and he also was a well known traditiona­l flute player and played all over Ireland for many years. So it was so appropriat­e that his remains were brought to the church on a horse drawn carriage and he left the church to the sound of a group of traditiona­l musicians playing the music he loved.

His remains had reposed at his residence for a number of days and were removed to St Patrick’s Church, Gurteen on Thursday

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

for his Funeral Mass celebrated by parish priest Fr Joe Caulfield assisted by Fr James McDonagh PP Ballymote. The burial took place in Gurteen Cemetery. Predecease­d by his wife Winnie, he is survived by his daughters Anna-Marie and Geraldine, son Pat, daughter – in – law Claire, grandson Seán, sister – in-law Bridie, nieces, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May he rest in peace.

RAFFLE FOR TIDY TOWNS

Gurteen Tidy Towns are having a fundraisin­g raffle for Christmas with 10 great prizes – draw will take place in the Hill Hotel, Gurteen on Sunday, December 23.

BINGO

Bingo takes place every Friday night in Gurteen Hall at 8.30 p.m. Proceeds goes to the upkeep of the hall and the local Eastern Harps GAA Club. Big prizemoney to be won on the night.

GURTEEN POST OFFICE

The fight to keep Gurteen post office open goes on and the committee meet every week and are thankful and heartened with the co-operation from the public. People are asked to please keep using all the facilities at the post office.

SVP COLLECTION

The St Vincent de Paul annual collection will take place at Masses next Saturday and Sunday, December 8, and 9. All money collected will be spent locally. Your support as always would be gratefully appreciate­d.
