1,202 SHOEBOXES COLLECTED
The response to the recent North Leitrim Team Hope’s Christmas Shoeboxes appeal was truly amazing with a massive total of 1,202 being very generously donated by people in the northern part of the county for this most worthy cause.
As a result of this kindness, children in Belarus will receive their unexpected Christmas presents on Tuesday, December 25. With collection points in Drumkeerin, Dromahair and Manorhamilton, as well as the participation of a number of North Leitrim schools, the overall outcome of the appeal was an outstanding success.
Everyone involved can truly proud of a magnificent achievement for the recipient children of impoverished Belarus, the former Soviet Bloc country that gained its independence in 1990 after the fall of communism and the break up of the USSR.
It was an exciting event for all involved with the North Leitrim Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal project in Manorhamilton on Monday night, November 26, when a truck departed for Belarus with the 1,202 shoeboxes on board and at the beginning of its long journey across Northern Europe to its final destination.

Everyone is invited to come along and celebrate Seán’s book about his memories of life in North Longford in 1950s and 1960s. People’s everyday life in Leitrim in the mid twentieth century would be very similar to what Seán details in his new book.
