Speed up new Airbnb regulations
HOUSING, Planning and Local Government Minister Eoghan Murphy has been urged to speed up upcoming legislation on Airbnb.
Cllr Joe Queenan, who looked for an outline of planning regulations for Airbnb was told that An Bord Pleanala ruled two years ago that the exclusive use of a residential apartment for short term holiday lettings requires planning permission. “The Airbnb in West Sligo is completely different to the cities,” replied Cllr Queenan.
“These are people who have a spare room and are extremely popular. The people who are going to take tourists this summer are in limbo because next June is too late,” he said, adding that “whoever can encourage Eoghan Murphy to hurry up the legislation” should do so.
