IDA criticised for landing space snub
THE IDA were criticised at the Council meeting for not inviting the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council to be the first to speak at the official opening of the Landing Space offices in Embankment House, on Rockwood Parade on 30 th November.
Cllr Declan Bree said it was “disrepectful” to the County’s First Citizen, especially as the Council was involved in the venture.
“I don’t think we can allow the IDA to act like that, it’s unacceptable,” he said. He was supported by several members including Cllrs Seamus Kilgannon and Rosaleen O’Grady.
Chief Executive of the Council Ciarán Hayes agreed with Cllr Bree’s point “well made.”
Cllr Bree also pointed out that the Cathaoirleach wasn’t invited to speak at the event in the Model during the Taoiseach’s visit.
Cllr O’Grady said the protocol was that the Cathaoirleach was always the first to speak at such events: “It’s not acceptable.”
