New season at the Hawk’s Well

Featuring all events programmed for the season ahead, there’s plenty of culture and entertainment on offer as well as lots of Christmas gift ideas.
Theatre lovers will have plenty of choice. Plays this season include productions from Druid, who present Furniture by Sonja Kelly following its sell-out run at the Mick Lally Theatre as part of the Galway International Arts Festival; Fishamble (the new play company) visit with On Blueberry Hill by Sebastian Barry; John B. Keane’s The Matchmaker starring Mary McEvoy and Jon Kenny; Marie Jone’s Fly Me to the Moon; Chris Larner’s An instinct for Kindness; The Night Joe Dolan’s Car Broke Down by Padraic McIntyre; The funny and poignant play Two by Jim Cartwright performed by Niamh McGrath and Andrew Murray; Charlie’s a Clepto (nominated for Best New Play and Best Actress at the Irish Times Theatre Awards and for the Stewart Parker Trust New Playwright Bursary 2017)and a tribute to Mr Laurel from Jeffrey Hollans, And this is my friend …Mr Laurel.
Local theatre productions include Loophole from Acorn Productions; Skreen/Dromard Drama group with A Fish Out of Water and Big Maggie from Sligo Drama Circle. Next year also sees the return if Crokey Hill Players ‘3 Hail Marys’.
The theatre’s popular ‘ Sligo Acts’ programme returns in 2019 with an in- troductory workshop on Sunday 27 th of January from 2 to 5pm. The actors from this programme will present an entertaining evening ‘Sligo Acts: Love’ in March.
Music highlights include a tribute to the late Thom Moore which will be hosted by the theatre in February; Sharon Shannon; Bellx1 (sold out); Pearse McGloughlin & Nocturnes; Matt Molloy, John Carty, Brian McGrath and Arty McGlynn; Special Consensus Bluegrass Band; Patrick Feeney’s Country and Gospel Concert; KGB (Paddy Keenan, Frankie Gavin and Dermot Byrne); The Golden Age of Big Band Vegas; Bow Brothers; Take it to the Limit ( A Celebration of The Eagles); Declan Nerney & Guests; ZoDoMo (Zoe Conway, Mairtin O’Connor and Donal Lunny); and Kings of Country. Michele Feeney will perform ‘Song Circle’ fol- lowing her short residency at the theatre this year.
Christy Moore also returns to the theatre in 2019 for two summer shows following his sold out solo gigs in 2018. Also just announced are Jake Carter; Mick Flannery and X-Factor quarter finalists from 2017 Sean & Conor Price. The theatre’s popular ‘Sing for the hell of it’ evenings continue throughout 2019 with one a month in January, February and March, hosted by Dave Flynn.
There are plenty of musicals at the theatre next year with the Sligo Hospital Musical Society kicking things off in January with their annual pantomime. This year they are performing Pinocchio. Sligo Musical Society return with Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma in February; Ursuline College Sligo transition year present Legally Blonde the Musical in March. Comedy highlights include Jason Byrne’s new show ‘You can come in, but don’t start anything’; online funny man Rory O’Connor with ‘What’s the Story Rory’; Neil Delamere’s ‘Controlled Substance’.
Film star, tv legend and author, Ricky Tomlinson visits for one night only in March and John Cooper Clarke ‘ The Luckiest Guy Alive’ returns in April. There are also plenty of workshops and events for children and all the family taking place at the theatre. A development fee of €1 on all tickets is being added to the price of all tickets sold to raise money for the renovation of the theatre building.
