LEITRIM GUARDIAN
A good attendance was present when 2019 Leitrim Guardian Person of the year, Séamus O’Rourke launched the 51st edition of the excellent annual county magazine recently in the Bee Park Community Centre.
The Leitrim Poetry award was won by Trevor Conway for his poem ‘April 1’ The Poetry award runner-up was Gareth Byrne for his poem ‘ Sound Man for the Council’ while the third placed winner was Nora McGillen with her poem ‘Lament for Jean McConville.’.
Seán McPartlin won the Leitrim Guardian Literary Award with his work ‘Understanding’. In the Leitrim Guardian Young Writers category Annie Rooney was the winner in the Primary section and Rachel Eddery was the Post Primary award winner.
Patrick C. McIntyre (Patsy) won the Leitrim Guardian Literary award for his story ‘1956 and all that.’ about Leitrim V Dublin 1956 all-Ireland minor football final.
Copies of the 2019 Leitrim Guardian are now on sale in several outlets in Manorhamilton.
DARREN’S THRILLING WIN
When the recent highly exciting North Leitrim Men’s Group progressive ‘25’ card drive took place in the Bee Park Community Centre, Darren Glynn proved to be the best player on the occasion when he claimed an outright event victory on seven games.
Meantime there was a red hot battle for the second progressive ‘25’ card drive prize on offer that resulted in a three way tie at the end after Jackie McGowan, Noreen Montgomery and Rita Cullen couldn’t be separated following six games of intense playing action.
John Connolly won the progressive ‘25’ card drive’s table prize. The progressive ‘25’ card drive’s raffle winners were Maria Lynch (first), Sylwia McCafferty (second) and Frank Dolan (third).
The North Leitrim Men’s Group Christmas ‘progressive ‘25’ card drive will take place this Sunday night, December 16, in the Bee Park Community Centre. The proceeds from this card drive will be donated to the local St Vincent de Paul Society.
HEALTHY IRELAND TALK
As part of the ‘Healthy Ireland at your Library’ initiative Leitrim Libraries are hosting a talk on ‘Cancer Prevention and the Importance of Screening’ on this Wednesday, December 12, at 5.30 p.m. in Manorhamilton Library.
Everyone is invited to come along and meet Helen O’Driscoll, who is the Screening Promotion Advisor in the North West. Helen will provide information and raise awareness about the importance of screening and early cancer detection.
Booking in as far advanced a date as possible for all who wish to attend this talk is essential for a place at it, as space in Manorhamilton Library is limited.
STOP ‘25’ EVENT
A ‘25’ card drive in aid of North West STOP takes place in the Granary Bar Manorhamilton Bar at 8 p.m. on this Wednesday night, December 12.
All support for this event will be greatly appreciated. There will be fantastic prizes on offer for the ‘25’ card drive. North West STOP plays a vital role in support of families that experience the loss of a member through suicide, and in preventing suicide from taking place through its counselling services.
