O’Connell Street facelift contract

The contract for the works to upgrade O’Connell Street is expected to be signed this Januar y.

Cllr Declan Bree asked when consultations would begin with the traders about the refurbishment works.

He was told that monthly progress reports have been emailed out to business owners in the area since l ast May, outlining the status and stage of the scheme.

The works are expected to take ten months to complete.

Cllr Bree said 11 years had passed since it was fir st agreed that O’Connell Street would be refurbished.

Last month the Government announced ¤ 1.2million in grant aid for the project.

“As Sligo’s main street, O’Connell Street badly needs a facelift and a major refurbishment. I welcome that news and the people of Sligo will welcome it. Hopefully we will see this scheme come to fruition in 2019,” he said, thanking Director of Ser vices Tom Kilfeather and his staff for progressing the matter.
