Threat­ened to kneecap Garda on stag night out

A mem­ber of a stag party who threat­ened to kneecap a Garda has been con­victed and fined ¤300.

The District Court heard Ruairí Fitz­patrick was seen by Gar­daí ag­i­tated and shout­ing at door staff of Lola’s night­club with his t-shirt off.

When Gar­daí ap­proached him, “he said he would kneecap the Garda if he didn’t leave him alone,” said Sgt Derek But­ler.

Fitz­patrick of Cahir, Kil­timagh, Co. Mayo but orig­i­nally from Louth, was charged with be­ing in­tox­i­cated and abu­sive on JFK Pa­rade on 1st July 2018.

He also has nine pre­vi­ous con­vic­tions from Dun­dalk District Court for Pub­lic Or­der of­fences.

De­fence so­lic­i­tor Mr Tom MacSharry said Fitz­patrick apol­o­gised to Garda Fitzger­ald shortly af­ter the in­ci­dent.

“What’s this about kneecap­ping?” Judge Kil­rane asked Fitz­patrick.

“I don’t know. Drink doesn’t suit me at all,” replied the de­fen­dant. He was con­victed and fined ¤300 for be­ing abu­sive and drunk.
