Threatened to kneecap Garda on stag night out
A member of a stag party who threatened to kneecap a Garda has been convicted and fined ¤300.
The District Court heard Ruairí Fitzpatrick was seen by Gardaí agitated and shouting at door staff of Lola’s nightclub with his t-shirt off.
When Gardaí approached him, “he said he would kneecap the Garda if he didn’t leave him alone,” said Sgt Derek Butler.
Fitzpatrick of Cahir, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo but originally from Louth, was charged with being intoxicated and abusive on JFK Parade on 1st July 2018.
He also has nine previous convictions from Dundalk District Court for Public Order offences.
Defence solicitor Mr Tom MacSharry said Fitzpatrick apologised to Garda Fitzgerald shortly after the incident.
“What’s this about kneecapping?” Judge Kilrane asked Fitzpatrick.
“I don’t know. Drink doesn’t suit me at all,” replied the defendant. He was convicted and fined ¤300 for being abusive and drunk.
