CHRISTMAS GREETINGS

Cadra wish all our residents, volunteers and friends a very happy Christmas. We thank everyone who assisted with our objective of taking care of our community during 2018. Please keep a look out for our neighbours and don’t forget to call anyone living alone.

CHRISTMAS TREE/ CAROL SERVICE

A large number of residents enjoyed a social evening in the community centre for the Lighting of the Christmas Tree at the community centre. Fr Jim blessed the tree and set in motion our local celebratio­ns of the true meaning of Christmas. Ray Cotter and the local children’s and adults choirs entertaine­d all with beautiful Carols and all enjoyed the refreshmen­t provided by our usual volunteers.

POSTER CAMPAIGN

Cadra is now working to ensure posters are not erected in our area during all elections’ and referenda. We have written to leader and General secretary of each political party requesting they commit to respecting our community by not erecting posters. Please spread the word and ensure all supporters are aware.

25 CARD GAME

We were delighted to see all our many friends and supporters enjoy the special Christmas party on Tuesday night. The €1,000 jackpot unfortunat­ely was not won. The winners of the regular jackpot on 12games were Pascal McGoldrick/Jodie Cooney, Darragh Fallon/Anthony McGoldrick. Runners-up were Gerry Fee/ Séamus Lavin. The monster draw gave over 30 prizes and all enjoyed the refreshmen­ts and chat after the game. The volunteer organisers wish all our players, supporters’ families and friends a very Happy Peaceful Christmas. Looking forward to seeing all again for the first game of the New year on Tuesday, January 8, 19 at 9 p.m. New inexperien­ced players are always welcome. All proceeds go to local projects in the community so please support and bring a friend.

DANCING CLASSES

Dance class followed by live band each Wednesday night in Carraroe Community Centre Sligo. Dance class commences at 8.30 p.m. with live band from 9.30 p.m. to 11.30 p.m.

CHURCH NEWS

Parking at Church: Please use the designated car parks at our church which includes around the community centre. Plenty of parking is available in safe locations. Please avoid parking on the main roads. It obstructs passing traffic.

Carraroe Parish Choir: Parish Choir rehearsal on Mondays at 8 p.m. in the church. If you can sing and would like to be part of a community choir, please come along. More male singers are required.

The sick and Housebound: Mass is on 107FM Just tune your radio before Mass. Please let the housebound know about this service in your area.

SLIMMING WORLD

Charlotte will provide sessions in Carraroe Community Centre each Tuesday morning at 7.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. and each Saturday morning at 8.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. All current, new, re-joining and visiting members very welcome. – for more informatio­n contact Charlotte at 087 7987118.

HI-VIZ

Cadra continues to distribute free Hi-Viz. We appeal to people walking or working around our community to wear Hi-Viz to ensure visibility in these dark evenings. We have a supply of free Hi-Viz available from any member of committee.

ST JOHN’S GAA CLUB

HALL HIRE

Our Centre is available for room and hall hire at very competitiv­e rates, and we offer excellent facilities for sports, meetings, parties and social events, including our sports hall, changing rooms with showers etc. Our hall is very popular for sports events, and also for children’s parties as it can accommodat­e a bouncy castle. Do pop in to have a look, or call the centre on 914 6512.

Sligo in the Irish Song Competitio­n with their song and video ‘Amhran Scoil Chroí Naofa’. It comprised singing, rapping as Gaeilge as well as Irish dancing and traditiona­l music.
