Summerhill juniors facing St Gerald’s in Connacht final this Thursday in Bekan

-

SUMMERHILL College juniors are taking on St Gerald’s of Castlebar in the Connacht A final on Thursday in the Connacht Centre of Excellence as Barry Convey’s side hope to get the year off to a winning start.

The team includes many who were part of the school’s juvenile side that did the double last year.

Manager Barry Convey said that being in another provincial decider is something to look forward to. “It is great being in the final, it is all part of the plan. The game was initially supposed to be played in December but it didn’t suit. Eo- ghan Smith is captain of our team and there is 37 on the panel altogether. I took them over when they were in 1st year and brought them along. Sean Gormley is the other teacher involved and Liam Óg Gormley is coach. They are a great bunch of lads and they are probably more responsive than the team that won in ‘16. That was an excellent team too but at a younger age this team is very promising for the future.

“We have played St Gerald’s in the league and beat them comprehensively and we have them in the 1st round of the championship on January 28th. There is a good buzz around the school ahead of the final. I will bring these lads to senior football then the year after next,” Barry added.

Throw in on Thursday is 12:30pm in Bekan.
