Walsh and Fox to run in upcoming Local Elections

-

THOMAS Walsh and Tom Fox are the latest names that will be contesting the upcoming Local Elections in the Sligo/Drumcliffe area.

The Fine Gael Selection convention in the Clayton Hotel was held on Monday and it was chaired by Mayo Senator John O’Mahony. Ballygawley’s Thomas Walsh and Tom Fox from Calry were selected to run for the party in the May Local Elections.

Tributes were also paid to Cllr Hubert Keaney who revealed earlier that day that he was deciding not to run again in May.

Thomas Walsh said he was delighted to be nominated. He added: “I have been a member of Fine Gael for the past 15 years and was appointed a Local Area Representative in 2016 by the Executive Council of the Fine Gael. I have worked extremely hard to ensure East Sligo has a strong and active voice.”

Calry’s Tom Fox, who defeated Ciara McLoughlin, has a history of politics in his family. He said he is really looking forward to the elections this May. “My father was first elected to the council in 1979 and my mother was a councillor from ‘82 until 2009 so we were always interested in politics as a family. We will be working hard over the next while, Thomas Walsh is running in the same area and certainly we will be up for it,” he added.
