Man sent for trial on assault charge

A 36-year-old man has been sent forward for trial to Sligo Circuit Court for assault causing harm.

Gniewomir Karmelita, of 4, Hazel Grove, Brooklawns, Sligo will appear before Sligo Circuit Court today [ Tuesday] for one charge of assault causing harm.

Karmelita was served with the Book of Evidence before Sligo District Court. It is alleged he assaulted another causing them harm at Wine Street on February 14 th, 2016.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old father of one was given the benefit of the Probation Act, after it was heard he was ‘ totally out of his mind’ with alcohol.

John Derrig of Battlefiel­d, Culfada. Ballymote was directed to pay €100 to charity after it was heard he was intoxicate­d at Tieveboy, Ballymote, on January 15 th, 2018.

The court heard there had been a bench warrant issued for Derrig on October 4 th last when he failed to appear in court.

Solicitor John Anderson said his client was working in Dublin at the time and he was the ‘sole breadwinne­r’ for his family.
