Rovers astro league enters business end of season

-

THE business end of the Sligo Rovers astro league is fast approaching, with the league now split into a top and bottom tier.

The top seven teams in the division pre-Christmas qualified for top flight football, while the remaining seven had to settle for the second tier.

Shannon Celtic kicked off the action in group A, overcoming Clune Celtic in a five goal thriller 3-2. This game proved tense and at times end to end with both teams’ eager to collect the three points.

It was Dave Cummins’ men who came out on top and registered a very valuable three points.

The other game in group A saw Cornview Celtic play out a frantic 0-0 draw with local rivals Custom Clothing.

Custom will be the happier of the two sides coming away with a point with Cornview being one of the title favourites this year.

Calry Bohemians raced to the top in group B, after demolishing the White Gorillas 6-1.

This was an ideal start to their life in group B, with Calry the hot favourites to lift the group B crown in April.

GSS recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Abbvie while Ballymote Celtic also picked up maximum points after overcoming Forrest Celtic 1-0 also.
