Local works lauded
A major new exhibition was launched in The Model on Saturday on the occasion of the 60 th anniversary of The Niland Collection. The Keeper: To have and to Hold looks at collections through the lens of Sligo’s municipal collection; the eclectic collection of Jobst Graeve, as well as through four contemporary film works by Ed Atkins, Elizabeth Price, Susan Hiller and Taus Makhacheva.
It features in excess of 120 artworks by over 70 Irish and international artists, working across more than 100 years of history reflected in artistic practice. The exhibition includes a Jack Butler Yeats painting titled The Racecard Seller (1909) on loan from the Taoiseach’s office for two years when the artwork will be on display into 2020 along with The Niland Collection.
