RECENT DEATH

The death has occurred peacefully on January 18 at St Anne’s Hospice, Cheadle, Manchester of James (Jim) Turner, a grand nephew of the legendary fiddle player Michael Coleman. The Irish Music Centre in Gurteen is dedicated to the great Michael Coleman of Killavill and Jim had visited the centre some years ago.

Jim was born in Hulme, Manchester to Tom and Molly Turner (née Coleman) and as a school boy he had learned to play the accordion and later played the pipes with the Wythenshawe Pipe Band. Sympathy is extended to all his family and friends: to his cousins Michael Joe and Pat McGovern, Mount Irwin: Beatie McManamey, Harristown, Kathleen O’Gara Sligo, Angela Leamy, Bunninadden, Patricia Keane, Knockgrania, Killavil, Seán Davey, Swinford and Thomas Davey, England.
