Pop Up Theatre Sligo are excited to announce the brilliantl­y talented cast for their upcoming production of Chicago taking place in the Hawks Well in 17 th – 20 th April 2019. The successful candidates battled it out in a tough audition process before Christmas to take the coveted roles and are now in an intense 3 month rehearsal schedule ahead of the hotly anticipate­d production. In the principal roles newcomer Laura Kiely will play Roxie Hart the fame hungry murderess desperate to become famous on the back of a cold blooded murder and Maggie Villarini will play vaudeville superstar and fellow murderess Velma Kelly. Donegal native and Sligo IT Performing Arts student Conor White will play king of the courtroom, the Razzle Dazzle lawyer Billy Flynn, and Brendan Reid plays long suffering husband of Roxie, Amos Hart. Pop Up are excited to also welcome Canadian natives Rachel Patenaude who takes the role of queen of the Cook County Jail Mamma Morton, and Laura Coulter-Low who plays roving reporter Mary Sunshine.

Director Karen Gordon revealed that casting was almost impossible “We had an amazing turnout for auditions, Sligo is truly saturated with talent. We could have cast this production 3 times over. We’re thrilled with our final cast line-up, and equally as thrilled to have such a spectacula­r full cast and crew, we cannot wait to get started. Sligo is in for a really special treat this April!”

Working with the final cast will be a star studded production team involving the cream of Sligo / Donegal talent including Ingrid McLoughlin on Choreograp­hy, Herta Kelly as Vocal Director, the Sligo Academy of Music as Orchestra with Niamh Crowley as Musical Director, Barry McKinney on lights and Vinnie Higgins on sound. Pop Up are also proudly associated with Creative Ireland for this exciting project.

LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL

Ursuline College students under the guidance of Sarah Middleton and musical direction of Niamh Crowley, are bringing Legally Blonde The Musical to Sligo this March at the Hawk’s Well Theatre.

When homecoming queen Elle Woods’ boyfriend dumps her for someone more serious, Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books and heads for Harvard Law School. Legally Blonde The Musical is an all singing, all dancing romantic comedy, a fun-filled, feel-good pink fest. OMG, like, you totally have to see it!! So get your pink on and come join us for a whirlwind of laughter, music and song!

YEATS SUMMER SCHOOL

The programme for the 60 th Yeats Internatio­nal Summer School - now the world’s longest running summer school, has been announced.

Dates: 25 th July - 2nd August 2019 This year’s directors are Professor Matthew Campbell and Dr Lauren Arrington and they have chosen a great lineup of lecturers to mark this prestigiou­s event. In addition, there will be music, poetry, readings, walks and talks. There will be stand up paddling, Irish dancing and some fairies at Glencar Waterfall. Further events will be added to the programme.

A special Salute to Seamus evening will mark the poet Seamus Heaney’s great literary achievemen­ts and his lifetime associatio­n with the Yeats Summer School.

WESTERN DRAMA FESTIVAL

WDF is the longest running amateur drama festival in Ireland and is renowned for its ambiance and hospitalit­y which you can enjoy in the welcoming theatre that dates back to the early forties.

Adjudicato­r Anna Walker is an inspiratio­n, full of enthusiasm and is esteemed and loved by audiences. Last year her adjudicati­ons in the Amateur Drama finals in Athlone were first rate, so she comes to the WDF with a great wealth of experience and expertise.

You will see there is an amazing and lovely mix of plays included in theprogram­me, this promises to be a great festival.

Nine nights of drama will be excellent value at just €60.
