Sligo Circuit Court hears of how man (21) wanted to meet up with girl (13) and to ‘do stuff’ with her
A teenage girl has told how a 21 year old man tried to get her to meet him for what she believed was sex after he got in touch with her on Snapchat.
The girl, now 16, in a Victim Impact Statement revealed at Sligo Circuit Court told how the man, due to be sentenced next week, suggested going to a local golf club to do ‘stuff ’.
The teen understood this to mean sex and in a later statement to gardaí, said she felt uncomfortable. Before the court was a 24 year old man who pleaded to one count of exploiting a child. John Kilcoyne from Tubbercurry referred to the golf club being a quiet location.
When questioned Kilcoyne initially said his friend had his phone for a time, before admitting he had the phone. He told gardaí the teen had added him on the app and claimed she was ‘ trying to flirt’ with him and she knew he had a car and was ‘ looking for lifts’
Referring to Kilcoyne, the girl stated in her Victim Impact Report said: “You have made me wiser on the internet and I thank you for that.” See page 3.
