COLLOONEY PROTEST
THE community of Collooney came out in force last Saturday to demand a safe pedestrian crossing across the busy N4 dual carriageway that dissects its town.
Hundreds turned up for the shrot protest which has highlighted concerns of residents who find it increasingly difficult to safely cross the dual carriageway to access some of the town’s main facilities such as the retail park, Teeling Centre and main service station and restaurant.
Locals are demanding a footbridge be constructed over the dual carriageway and concerns have risen in the community since a lorry overturned at a roundabout two weeks ago. The short rally moved off from the playground around 4pm and crossed the dual cariageway, bringing traffic to a standstill temporarily before returning to the playground.
The group hope to make their point to Transport Minister Shane Ross in person when he arrives in Sligo on Friday when he arrives to turn the sod on the Collooney/ Castlebaldwin upgrade project.
