DANIEL DAVEY EVENT

Coolaney-Mullinabre­ena GAA Healthy Club Committee will host top Nutritioni­st Daniel Davey for a free/open informatio­n talk on Friday, January 17, at 8 p.m. in St Attracta’s Community School. The event will be sports related but also have a general nutritiona­l focus for a much broader audience. Daniel, a former club player, is achieving great success with his best selling book ‘Eat Up Raise Your Game’ across the country and this event is sure to capture the attention of the entire south Sligo community and beyond. Cormac McSparron and Dirk Brandherm of THE KNOCK NA SHEE PROJECT have been in contact and wish to return to St Nathy’s Hall for a talk about their work on Knocknashe­e regarding their findings during the excavation along with their plans for 2020. UNDERSTAND­ING CHILDREN COURSE

A Leitrim Lifestart one half day per week course over four days in Rossinver Community Centre, which begins later this month, will help mums, dads, grandparen­ts, guardians and carers of young children understand how life at home shapes children.

This course entitled ‘Shaping Ourselves and Our Children’ is free for all who wish to attend it, and who undoubtedl­y will benefit from it. The course will start on Wednesday, January 29, and all who wish to attend are requested to book their place on it beforehand by phoning 071 9832970.

The ‘Shaping Ourselves and Our Children’ course topics are – informatio­n on child social and emotional developmen­t; understand­ing how children develop self esteem and confidence; supporting children’s understand­ing of others; communicat­ion skills and behavioura­l management; learning through play – play day with kids (Day 4); Diversity – understand­ing how biases and prejudices are shaped.

Meantime the ‘Shaping Ourselves and Our Children’ course takes place in Rossinver Community Centre from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. (with lunch included) on Wednesday, January 28, on Wednesday, February 5, on Wednesday, February 12, and on Wednesday, February 19.

Generous childcare allowances are available for all course participan­ts if needed. This four one half day per week Rossinver course is supported by the EU Peace IV Programme under the auspices of the Special EU Programmes Body.

SENIOR HELP LINE

The Senior Help Line, which is Ireland’s only confidenti­al service for older people, is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., is on the 365 days of the year.

It is manned by older volunteers. The telephone number of the Senior Help Line is 1850-440444 and no call to it costs more than 30cent. The Senior Help Line service advises older people to call them and not to feel alone.
