RETIREMENT

Best wishes are extended to Fr O’Shea on his retirement as local parish priest having served in the parish of Riverstown for almost twenty-eight years, first as curate and then as parish priest since the retirement of his predecesso­r, Canon Matthew McLoughlin.

Best wishes are also extended to Fr Yashin Jos who has taken up the position of Administra­tor of the Parish effective from January. Fr Yashin has been serving as Curate in Riverstown and Sooey since September and prior to that was Curate at St Mary’s Cathedral parish.

The Riverstown Community would like to take this opportunit­y to thank Fr O’Shea for his service and dedication to the local community. Fr O’Shea will continue to live in Riverstown in the grounds of the Church of the Sacred Heart in what was previously the Parochial House.

ROAD TO SAM

A huge thank you and well done to everyone involved in Riverstown’s ‘Road to Sam’ football prediction competitio­n. Thank you to the sponsors, organisers, participan­ts and winners. Thank you to John McDermott for sponsoring the cup and Dave McKeon for coordinati­ng the competitio­n. Congratula­tions to Gerry Martin who won the cup. The competitio­n raised €980 which has been donated to the Riverstown Playground fund.

The next monthly clean up session of Riverstown Playground in Chapel Gardens will take place on Saturday, February 1 from 8am onwards. Any help would be greatly appreciate­d. Do bring along tools. Members of the community are welcome to do their bit at anytime if the group clean up time does not suit.

COMMUNITY LIBRARY

Please support the Community Library in the Sligo Folk Park. All are welcome to drop in and avail of borrowing some beautiful books for both adults and children.

SOCIAL CLUB

Sligo Folk Park Social Club continues every Wednesday morning 11am to 1pm in Riverstown. New members are very welcome.

SEAN NÓS DANCING

Children’s Sean Nós Dancing classes with Bróga Bríomhar Dance School taught by All Ireland Champion dancer Eiméar Mulvey will take place in the Morrison Cottage, Riverstown. New 6 week term starts on Thursday, January 16. Beginner Children’s classes 6 to 6.30pm. Intermedia­te 1 Children’s classes (7 to 12 years) 6.30 to 7pm. Intermedia­te 2 Children’s classes 7 to 7.30pm. Advanced Class 7.30 to 8.15pm. Booking is essential. Limited places available. Contact Eiméar on 0862584465.

GET FIT CLASSES

Body Blast Boot Camp for 6 weeks will take place in the Morrison Cottage, Riverstown starting on Tuesday, January 21 at 6.30pm. High Intensity Interval training for all ranges, beginners to advanced. GLEANN REUNION

The Gleann reunion committee have been overwhelme­d by the response of people who sent in articles, photos, short stories etc for the book. Material for the book is now being sorted and everything is finding its place in the book. The committee are hard at work and the excitement is growing in our wider community too. Remember to keep Sunday, April 12 free for the launch and reunion of past pupils. With this in mind and as the book will soon be going to print, anyone who would like to sponsor the book in any way may do so now and all sponsors will be acknowledg­ed in the book.
