A Sligo bar has been ordered by a District Court to cancel a drinks promotion if had been advertising on its social media platforms.

Sligoville Limited, the company which runs Andersons Bar and Grill has been directed to cancel a drinks promotion which was due to take place last night (Monday) in its nightclub Sintillate.

During an application for a special exemption order it was heard the bar had been advertising a drinks promotion which was due to take place on January 20 th. The bar’s social media platforms advertised all drinks to be sold for €3 on the night.

Sligo District Court heard gardaí were concerned about the drinks promotion which appeared on the club’s Facebook page and Instagram account. The court heard the advertisement had since been removed.

Spokesperson for Sligoville Ltd, Connie Ballantine told the court she spoke to the owner Brian O’Sullivan and the offer was withdrawn,

The social media manager for the venue was contacted and the posts were removed.

Ms Ballantine explained the social media manager was of the belief that other venues were putting on similar promotions.

After evidence was heard in relation to the cancelling of the promotion there was no objection to the application for the special licence.

Judge Kevin Kilrane rose the issue of some patrons attending the venue demanding €3 drinks and asked what would be done to prevent this.

Ms Ballantine informed the judge that at teh time the posts were taken down less than 20 people had viewed or engaged with the posts.

Judge Kilrane suggested a post outlining the cancellation of the promotional drinks offer be put up online to ‘avoid angry customers demanding cheap drink’. The licence was then granted.
