Five debutants get Sligo ladies start

SLIGO’S first game of the Lidl NFL Division 3 kicked off on Sunday in Abbey Park, Boyle under new manager Miceal Bohan.
Roscommon opened the scoring with 1pt within the first 5minutes of the game, with Sligo quickly matching that with their own point from Leah Kelly.
Roscommon went on to score 5 more points without reply until the 26th minute with a point from Sligo’s Lisa Casey, quickly followed by a goal from the opposition.
Sligo finished the first half with another point from Casey the scoreboard showing Roscommon 1-6 to Sligo 0-3.
Sligo came out strong in the second half.
A goal from a Casey penalty in the 36th minute left Sligo only 2pts behind, but Roscommon hit back with a second goal Roscommon were leading 2-6 to Sligo’s 1-4.
The opposition tallied another 2pts before Sligo turned it around with a superb goal from Rachel O’Brien, leaving only 3pts between the sides.
However, Roscommon grabbed a third goal opening a 7point lead, which undoubtedly dampened Sligo’s momentum.
Sligo kept their composure but Roscommon scored another point, followed by 3points(1f) from Sligo within quick succession.
Sligo’s hopes faded when Sinead Naughton was shown a yellow card in the 57th minute.
This was a very promising performance from a young Sligo side who debuted 5players on the day, showing lots of potential for forthcoming matches under manager Miceal Bohan and mentors Paul Durcan and Nathaniel Kelly.
Sligo’s next match is away to Kildare on Sunday at 2pm, venue tbc.
