ST FARNAN’S LADIES

THE following management teams have been confirmed for the coming year: U-8 Paula Hargadon, Mary Scott, Sean Healy; U-10 Kieran Kilgannon, Chantel McCloat; U-12 Jackie Donlon, Adrian Scott, Gregory O’Brien; U-14 TBC; U-16 Tomas Scott, Emer McHugh; Minor Don McCloat, Raymond Lang; Intermediate Paul and Angela O’Brien. We wish to express our thanks to these individuals for making themselves available to carry out the important work of preparing our girls football teams for the coming year. CLAIRE Dunne, Rachel O’Brien and Leah Kelly all started for Sligo Ladies against Kildare in the sides Lidl National League Div. 3 clash in St. Conleth’s Park, Newbridge on Sunday. Left corner forward O’Brien opened Sligo’s account with a point and later found the net for the second week running to give her side a 1-4 to 0-3 lead on twenty-one minutes. However both herself and defender Dunne had to be withdrawn at the interval due to injury concerns with their side leading by 1-7 to 1-4 while Kelly, wearing the number thirteen shirt, also made way midway through what turned out to be a disappointing second half for the visitors. On the resumption the Lilywhites took complete control, kicking 1-7 before Sligo registered their first and ultimately only score of the half, a point twenty-two minutes in, and ran out convincing winners by 2-13 to 0-8. It all means that next Sunday’s home game against joint table toppers Down takes on even more significance if the side are to retain any hope of promotion to Div. 2. Good luck to all concerned. SYMPATHY is extended to former club player Leslie Kee of Beltra and her family on the death of her grandmother, Maud Unkles. Sympathy is also extended to the relatives of the late Norah Gallagher, Chaffpool, Tubbercurry on her passing and especially to her grand-daughters Jacqui, Virginia and Fidelma and greatgrand-daughters Kayleigh, Megan and Aveen, all current wearers of the “Blue

HANDBALL

Castleconnor Handball Club hosted the Annual Gerard Jones Memorial Handball Tournament last weekend. Everyone who participated and attended as spectators will all agree that some fine games of handball were played. It was a day where the young guns showed us all how a game of handball should be played and what a performance from all of the young lads. We also had exhilarating games between old rivals who battled it out to the bitter end and left everything in the alley.

In the end the winners of the coveted Gerard Jones Memorial cup were two young players Cormac Finn and Eoin Fox who showed everyone that the future of handball in the area is very much alive and kicking.

Hard luck to club members Martin and Patrick Cooney who were battled to the final ace, but were beaten in the final.

The plate final gave us handball supporters something to salivate over as the pairing of Jason Earlis and Sean Leonard fought a tough battle against Michael Browne and Darragh Sweeney to take the plate title for 2020.

Well done to all players who came from Castleconnor, Bofield,Collooney, Drumcliff, Ballinrobe and Killala.

We also would like to thank Bofield handball club for the use of their alley and facilities.

A big thank you to all the kitchen helpers and to all who baked, cooked, served, and cleaned. Thank you to all the spectators who made the day and had the craic. We want to say a big thank you to Gerry Curley from Office Pro who sponors us every year and gives his time.
