Musical Society presents ‘The King And I’
Award-winning Sligo Musical Society, in association with Sligo Academy of Music and the Melody Academy of Dance are together putting the finishing touches to their forthcoming production of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic, THE KING AND I. SMS is thrilled to have been granted express permission to stage the THE KING AND I as its professional production is currently on tour in the UK and continues until May.
With just over 3 weeks to opening night, SMS is thrilled to be bringing this much-loved and seldom performed musical theatre classic to the Hawk’s Well stage.
The plot centres the real-life experiences of Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher hired as part of the King of Siam’s drive to modernise his country in the early 1860’s. The relationship between the King and Anna is marked by conflict through much of the piece, as well as by a love to which neither can admit.
Supported by a rich and beautiful musical score with stunning costumes and featuring Sligo talent old and new with a cast of over 60, this charming show promises a wonderful and memorable musical theatre experience for all the family. Directed by David McEvoy, with musical direction by Niamh Crowley (featuring an orchestra drawn from the Sligo Academy of Music) and choreography by Melody Urquhart (featuring over 40 dancers from the Melody Academy of Dance), booking is open and promptly advised.
The show will run from Tuesday 18th – Sat 22nd February at 8pm with an additional matinee performance on Saturday 22nd at 2.30pm. Booking with the Hawk’s Well Theatre 071 9161518 or online www.hawkswell.com
