For trial on alleged EBS account theft

A 49-year-old woman has been sent forward for trial to Sligo Circuit Court for the alleged theft of €271,771 from nine different accounts over a seven year period.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred on dates between 2009 and 2016 at EBS Grattan Street, Sligo.

Maeve Diamond with an address at Main Street, Ballintogh­er, was charged with 83 counts of theft and making a false instrument to forge a signature on withdrawal slips from an account.

The alleged theft from nine different accounts involved amounts ranging from €4,777 to €101, 500.

Other amounts of €61,000, €28,545, €16,000 and €28,000 are among those alleged.

Appearing before Sligo District Court on Thursday last, Diamond was served with the Book of Evidence by Garda Gary Conneely before the court.

Diamond was remanded on continuing bail to appear before Sligo Circuit Court today (Tuesday) for trial.

Defending solicitor Mr Mark Mullaney was granted legal aid with one counsel. Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter, a 30-year-old man was also sent forward to Sligo Circuit Court for trial.

Michael Corcoran of Glendallon, Ballytivna­n was served with the Book of Evidence before Sligo District Court last Thursday before Judge Kevin Kilrane.

Corcoran is charged with intentiona­lly or recklessly causing serious harm to Bernard Smith at St Ann’s Terrace on July 23rd, 2015. Garda TJ Gallagher served Corcoran before the court and he was remanded on continuing bail to appear before the next sitting of Sligo Circuit Court today (Tuesday).

Defending solicitor Mr Gerard McGovern was granted legal aid and legal aid was extended to cover one junior and one senior counsel.
