Rathbraughan creche not deemed derelict

-

The former creche in Rathbraughan Park is not considered to be a derelict site, according to Sligo County Council.

But, they will continue to monitor the site, said Dorothy Clarke, Director of Services at Sligo County Council.

Councillor Sinead Maguire told the meeting that derelict properties are a concern for people in neighbouring properties, while also posing a physical danger.

The council confirmed that 113 Garavogue Villas was added to the Derelict Site Register in November 2017. As the owner was not in a position to carry out works on foot of the issuing of the Section 11 notice, Sligo County Council proceeded to carry out the works to secure the property and make it safe.

“It took two years for that work to be done at Garavogue Villas,” Cllr. Maguire said. “That took a long period of time.”

Councillor Rosaleen O’Grady added: “This is an ongoing issue. Houses derelict within a terraced row mean that other houses are at risk.”

Sligo County Council is currently engaging with owners of properties on Dominick Street with regard to vacancy, as opposed to dereliction and also trying to ascertain ownership of some properties. Some minor works were carried out recently on one property on this street.

Dorothy Clarke added that there are no properties in Rathbraughan Park currently on the register and the only

Derelict Site File they have in this estate relates to the former creche. While this property is vacancy, the council does not consider it to be derelict at this time.
