-

The BA (Hons) in Insurance Practice is an honours degree apprenticeship programme aimed at preparing insurance professionals for the world of work. It is delivered by IT Sligo in partnership with The Insurance Institute and LIA. The programme was launched in 2016 and has already enrolled over 300 apprentices across Ireland. The first cohort of apprentices graduated from the programme last year. Michael Barrett, Head of School of Business & Social Science in IT Sligo believes that the programme is growing from strength to strength; “IT Sligo is delighted to partner with The Insurance Institute and LIA on this exciting and innovative programme supported by SOLAS, Higher Education Authority and the Apprenticeship Council. Our 33 graduates last year are already making a significant contribution to the industry”.

This ‘Earn and Learn’ apprenticeship programme allows school leavers, graduates and career changers to gain employment to one of Ireland’s largest and most diverse sectors while achieving an honours degree. The degree qualification allows new entrants to the financial services sector to earn while they learn from their place of business with award winning delivery of online content by IT Sligo Lecturers. The programme has been an overwhelming success for the insurance sector and proves the apprentice model can be tailored to any industry. There are over 80 employers nationwide with insurance apprentices including 4 insurance brokers in Sligo. Further information on the programme is available at www.earnandlearn.ie
